Healing Leaves Pottery by Gael Thompson.
Healing Leaves Pottery is created in concept, design, glazing and firing from my heart to the person who chooses each original piece. Each piece has a story about its creation and many convey a spiritual insight. Some pieces are thrown on a wheel; others are created from slab rolled, textured clay and some are sculpted.
I use Cone 5-6 clay and glazes. Most glazed pieces are painted by hand while others are dipped in hand mixed glaze. I use an electric kiln. Texturing is a significant aspect of my pottery as is the use of stamps. I use these techniques to convey meaning through images, words, quotes and carving.

What began as playing in clay with my children, morphed into self-care and finally into an expression of my heart. I have always enjoyed creating and crafting in many forms, but the primordial nature of clay grounds me and gives expression to soul and heart. I make functional pieces, but I especially enjoy making pieces that express spiritual truth, stories and connectedness. During a time of deep spiritual reflection, expression of my experiences came in the form of images rather than words. So I began creating those images out of clay.
The pieces connected with others who asked me to make pieces for them and so emerged “Healing Leaves Pottery.” Relationships are my heart and I believe are what give life meaning, so my pieces express relationship to God, family, friends, and community. I especially love hands, trees, nature, symbols and powerful words, all for what they communicate.
I hope you will be drawn to a piece for what it says to you. If I am in the Gallery, ask and I will tell you my story of what the piece means, but your truth is just as real.
